Characteristics of colonization

     The French colonized Senegal in the late 19th century and they weren't very amiable. The Senegalese had capricious governance. Their government was changing when the French took over. The French put the Senegalese into forced labor and sent them overseas to Europe.The Senegalese couldn't do anything about it. The French eventually gave electing rights to black men after they proved the the man has lived there for five years. Even though the French gave electing rights to the Senegalese, they had a lot of control over the legislative council. Later, in the early 20th century, French denied constitutional rights to the Senegal people. The French weren't fair to the Senegalese people.

Why did European colony colonize African countries?

Advantages:

• The French are able to make profit through selling objects such as watches, lamps, maps, compasses, umbrellas, hats, and etc for an expensive cost they bought materials that are rare or not avaliable from France at a cheap cost such as gold, salt, oil, and etc.
• France used the slaves for working and as a scapegoat.
• They made a trade post, which made trading with other European colonies easier. 
• They were able to spread out their religion, Christianity.

Disadvantages:

• Climate is tropical, hot, and humid
• Senegal has floods seasonally in the lowlands and have periodic droughts
• Only 12.51% of the land is avaliable for farming
• Senegal has few natural resources
