While you may be used to going to Google Image Search when you want to find an image, many of the images indexed there are NOT published with permission for you to copy and reuse them. (Some are, but you need to find copyright information on the ORIGNAL site to determine that.)
Here are some websites and lists of website that do contain many images that you can freely use in school projects that you are going to publish on the web. (Remember you still have to site your source even if you are allowed to copy the image.)

Pics4Learning - All images on this site can be used by teachers and students, and a citation for each image is provided. Includes search and browsing by categories. Images such as maps and photos are included. To find a map for your country, search for the country name.

WP Clipart - Over 30,000 images specifically geared towards incuding in word processing documents, but many are good for website too. Everything on this site is "public domain" meaning you can use or edit/use the images in whatever you want. Includes a search tool and organization by categories.

Wikimedia Commons - Library of media including photos, videos, and sounds used by many Wikipedia articles. Most media here can be reused without obtaining any kind of permission from the original auther. Includes a search tool and organization by categories.

Copyrightfriendly wiki - List of sites with copyright friendly images and sounds. Includes sites that can be used to create avatars or profile images.
Remember you should still cite your source even if the media is free and if it does not require permission to use it!
