Nigeria's current political situation:
The Nigerian government is modeled after the United States government. The Nigerian government has three branches of government: the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. Each branch has its own purpose. The executive branch consists of the president Umara Musa, and the vice president, Goodluck Jonathan. Umara Musa won 69.8% of the votes and the runner up Muhammadu Buhari won 18.7% of the votes. The legislative branch has the senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has 109 seats, and the House of Representatives has 360 seats. Each member of congress is elected for a 4 year term the judicial branch has the Supreme Court, which passes all of the laws. Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960 and their constitution was created on May 5th, 1999 and was enforced May 29, 1999. The Nigerian government is a Federal Republic that consists of 36 states and 1 territory. The Nigerians have been successful at establishing a strong democratic government.
